Fill, Five Minute Friday
Running on empty,
as they say,
wondering how to get through the day.
trying not to break
when I think of what
I do not have--all
the things I crave, and never get.
But maybe I need broken,
a crack to let the light in,
the love in;
spill
and be filled.
We seal ourselves
up so tightly,
so that our hearts don't bleed out
and our souls don't fall.
But we aren't plastic bags
or tightened mason jars,
but cupped hands,
that hold what is given,
and let the rest slip through
with gratitude.
Release what is not to keep,
and receive what is blessed.
This is how we fill.
Love this! Release what is not to keep and receive what is blessed. This is how we fill. The truth in these beautiful words touches me deeply. Blessed to be your FMF neighbor! Mary
ReplyDeleteI am honored to be used to touch your heart. Blessed by your words and your time.
DeleteBeautiful! This right here: "maybe I need broken, a crack to let the light in, the love in; spill and be filled." Such truth. Thanks for sharing with #fmfparty!
ReplyDeleteand thank you for stopping by and lending time. :)
DeleteJust beautiful. I needed that tonight. Especially the 'not a plastic jug or a mason jar' part. We're only filled when He's poured out in us and leaking out our cracks.
ReplyDeleteHe knows--so much more than I could ever guess when it comes to which words will bless. Because He does the blessing. Thank you for your words.

ReplyDeletefirst of all, i'm a HUGE poetry lover...this was exquisite. Well done.
and just yesterday I was ponder the quote about being broken to let the light in (and i wonder if this same brokenness doesn't allow us to stream the light OUT as well after we've been filled.)
Thank you for this reflection. It spoke to my heart. I will have to check out some of your other writing as well.
I love that thought! That not only do our cracks let light in, but out, too! beautiful, and such gift. thank you.
